Welcome to our new weekly segment!
“๐๐ก๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐ ๐๐ก๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฌ๐๐๐ฒ” is where we will take time to highlight positive things happening in the world. Often, news and media sites are riddled with sad, disparaging stories, so it’s important to remind ourselves to “take a moment to see the good.”
This week’s Thriving Thursday story details an Uber driver’s kindness in helping a stranger during their moment of desperation. A college senior, Joey Romano, broke his wrist in Austin, TX while skateboarding and decided to call an Uber instead of an ambulance. Not only did the Uber driver, Beni Lukumu, drive him to the hospital free of charge, he also stayed by his side for his entire visit once he found out Romano didn’t have any family nearby. Because of this beautiful act of kindness, these two are still friends 7 years later.
A quote from Romano sums it up perfectly: โThat one act of kindness helped me see the good in the world again,โ Romano says. โHaving him spend his entire day with me โ a complete stranger, for no reason than the goodness of his heart, helped me to put things into perspective. Beni absolutely changed my life.”
