Fun Fact of the Day: As humans, we love to brag about our brain power, but there are 3 animals that give us some serious memory competition. The reals MVPs for outstanding memory capabilities are squirrels, elephants and dolphins.
According to the Cleveland Zoological Society, “Elephants use their 10.5 pound brains to encode necessary identification and survival information to keep their herd safe in the wild.” Turns out they are able to remember complex paths and journeys to bring their herds to water or safety. Quite impressive!
Squirrels are not only adjusted to human presence in their lives, but their incredble memories even help them remember people who have offered them food in the past! You may not recognize a squirrel, but, if you have fed it in the past, it will recognize you!
Dolphins have been discovered to recall another dolphin’s whistle for up to 20 years! Imagine recognizing someone’s voice that you met once 20 years ago. Hard to believe, but just goes to show the impressive memories in nature that just might have humans beat.
While cognitive therapy with us may not bring your memory up to a dolphin’s standards, it can drastically aid in exercising brain stamina and recollection. Check out our services page to learn more about the cognitive therapy we offer.
